revert to older distro
 

Hi,


I tried the new Kubuntu 7.10, codenamed Gutsy Gibbon, and I'm wondering if there is a way to revert to an older distro of Kubuntu, say Edgy or Feisty? (The old Kernel source directories seems to have vanished.)

New distro releases and updates provide newer versions of applications and fix (security?) problems. Using an older release (regardless of the distro) isn't recommended unless you know how to fix those problems by hand yourself. If you have a specific reason for wanting to revert you should look into fixing that problem instead.

Ok, good point. Thanks for the answer. The reason was just that I had a few minor problems. The computer seemed a bit more sluggish and also vlc, which I use to listen to mms streeming radio, died upon start. The latter is resolved however. I do not yet know if it's just imagination that the computer seems more sluggish but I will try to look into that and send a bug report to Ubuntu if I can find anything.

Good one. Now "sluggish" *is* subjective but it still leaves things to check. Maybe the install loaded services or apps you're not aware of or maybe you enabled some eyecandy or other bells 'n whistles that could make it seem slower. I'd say check out posts in http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/ and if you're ready to get help open up a new thread, add your HW/SW specs and ask for advice on what to check or to tweak performance.
