Reverse Proxy server issue

i m trying to set up a reverse proxy server
my main server has ip :- xxx.xx.xxx.42
my reverse proxy server has ip :- xxx.xx.xxx.172

the thing if i access xxx.xx.xxx.172 then it should redirect to xxx.xx.xxx.42.

i did the changes the httpd.conf file of xxx.xx.xxx.172 & its getting redirected but its asking for authentication twice i.e once on xxx.xx.xxx.172 & xxx.xx.xxx.42.

ideally it should ask it just once for xxx.xx.xxx.42


so wht changes needs to be done.
