Retro - Debian on Latitude CPx with WiFi

I've been defeated with WiFi on Dell Latitude CPx. Five days now, and no success.

I ran Knoppix. No joy.

I got my DLink DWL-G630 activated and connected with Parted Magic 4.1 Live CD. I surfed unconstricted with the Parted Magic live CD, but could not get connected with Debian 4.0. I compiled and maked the rt61 drivers. I modprobed. I configured. I failed.

I installed FreeBSD on my ancient piece of hardware. I could not get connected. I returned to Debian. Google told me to upgrade my Debian distro.

I installed Debian 5.0.1. Grub error 15.

I approach tears. Will Windows help me?

I can give output of dmesg, I can give configs of /etc/*/*. I can answer any questions of anyone who might help me. I can dispose of the antiquity, but that would defeat my quest
