Restricting system access to one program
 

I'm a relative newbie to Linux, and have had a problem thrown in my lap that I'm trying to sort out. I 'm setting up a traveling science museum exhibit, and I need to have the system boot up, automatically log into a desktop environment (KDE or Gnome, I'm not picky), start the program I want to run, then lock down the system so that visitors can neither start other programs nor close the running one. Access to the system by the visitor will only include a trackball and left mouse button, plus several push buttons that will be hard-wired to only emulate certain keypress combinations that are used in the software. The software requires a Red Hat distro; I'm planning on using Fedora unless someone has a better suggestion. I don't need detailed hand-holding as I'm reasonably technically competent (I can edit scripts, read man pages and figure things out, etc...), I just need to be pointed in the right direction as far as what steps are necessary.
