Restoring K Menu Editor
 

Is there a way to retore the K-Menu? I perhaps did something like for example, I clicked on Menu Editor and seem to have chosen the very first selection of a radio button. Now it will not let me restore the Menu. Because I cant see my usual programs such as the Login Manager and everything that I used to see.

Please help, this is very annoying.

Have you lost the k-menu button off your taskbar?

If so right click on the taskbar and go to 'panel menu' then 'add' then 'special button' and finally 'K-menu'

If you lost all apps when pressing the button try running 'kappfinder' from a konsole

I have seem to lost the Login Manager on the K Start Menu....

What happened to my Applications in Start Menu?
 

I was fiddling around with some settings in KMenu editor but I have seem to lost most crucial programs such as the Login Manager, Gedit, and several others. Is there a way to restore these programs in the Start Menu?

And also, I noticed that the submenus of the start menu all seem to start with the letter "K" but I did not have this before. I do not know what I did here...

Man, that attitude will probably get you in some hot water. NOBODY here is getting a cent for the knowledge they share, they are doing it because they want to, or maybe want to give back to the community in a way besides contributing code.

People may not have answered because of any number of reasons. "I screwed up my GUI" hardly rates as a major linux problem. To insult people reading your post for the first time (as you did with me) doesn't make them inclined to help you. Also, you let your first post sit all of 30 whole minutes before your posted this flamebait followup. What do you think, gurus and senior members have nothing better to do on a Saturday than to patrol the newbie forum all day? If you let it go 24 hours and had no responses, then a bump may have been in order, but not something that insults those who you are asking for free help from!

And further before I rant out of control, Since you know YOU screwed up your system by poking around in Kmenu, why not start the program again, and see if you can restore it to the defaults, or at least set it to more appropiate settings. I'll close with passing on the best advice I got from my boss when I started my IT job a few years ago -

"You broke it, and you call me pissed about it - you fix it."

I learned alot that way.

You should have a program in your settings menu called Menu Updating Tool... should find all of your available GUI programs... It's not like the programs are gone, you can run them in a shell, maybe you go back to M$ if you're that impatient. There's no reason to behave like an infant who just deficated upon himself.

For someone with 250 plus posts, you should know the forum rules by now and you should also know that replies can take time to come through because not everybody is going to spend their Saturday evening/sunday morning going through forums and people live in different time zones. A little bit more politeness and respect to forum members is essential if you want people to help you out with your problems.

Anyway since you are using Mandrake, its not advisable to make changes to your menu using the KDE menu editing tool, kmenuedit. You are better off using Menudrake. Try to restore your menu by doing, . There are other options, so running maybe helpful to you. It would also be advisable to remove the menu entries in .local before running the commands I posted.

As other in the thread have already said, such attitude doesn't help when searching for an answer. There are people from different countries and different timezones here and the answer may come at any time. Also, posting a followup to your own post is not a very wise idea, as it then stops to be on the 0 post list which is browsed by many members.
