Unhappy Restoring a Thunderbird Profile on Ubuntu

Hello all! I am new to Ubuntu but LOVING IT! As I attempted to restore my profile by following (or so I thought) the steps I found on the world wide interwebs, I managed to remove the "profile" file (which I thought that was what I was supposed to do) from the directory and not able replace it with the file created from my "backup" process from a windows os. Now this is what I see every time I attempt to open Thunderbird: "Your thunderbird profile can not be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessable."
Is there anyone out there that can help me find a way into some kind of program file and add the missing "profile file?" Thank you in advance so ever much!

What is the folder name you gave to your thunderbird profile and where did you put it? In my setup it's called .thunderbird (the initial full-stop is important) and it goes in my home folder as in /home/*username*/.thunderbird
