restarting proFTPd

i've installed proftpd 1.2.9 and downloaded. i've applied minor moderations in /usr/local/etc/proftpd.conf and run the server using /usr/local/sbin/proftpd when i try to ceonnect everything seems to be fine. but than when i change something in proftpd.conf file no changes appear to be done, even though i've saved the file! is there any way to restart proftpd to make it run with new configuration?

I'd suggest a
locate proftpd\.conf

Chances are that there is a RH version
living somewhere else that takes precedence
over yours.

Start it with "/usr/local/sbin/proftpd -c /usr/local/etc/proftpd.conf" and you'll see if another proftpd.conf is the problem.
