Restart Networking

Hello, I changed my DEFALT GATEWAY. How can I reset networking without restarting the computer.

issinho 08-26-2008 07:42 PM

Try /etc/init.d/network restart

Tim356 08-26-2008 10:37 PM

or just
Code:

service network restart

That command will only work if the distro is Red Hat based. Systems such as Ubuntu, Debian, Slackware, SuSE won't have the /sbin/service command.

This is true, good point.

And hence why the OP should put his distro in his user profile. On SuSE, "sudo /sbin/rcnetwork restart" or "sudo /etc/rc.d/network restart" will work unless the network manager is used.

Along with all this one can also use the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup command to bring the particular ethernet interface up as

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup ethN ----where N is the numeric value 0,1 etc
