Resolution issue with Sony Vaio laptop using Ubunta

I have just loaded Utunta, I am new to Linux. My older Sony Vaio laptop(PCG-FX150K) needs a screen resolution of 1024X768. the max size available in system > pref is 800X600. How do I change this?

You need to install the appropriate driver for the video card. To find out what video card you have, run the command 'lspci' in a terminal window and look for the card in the listing of the output.
