resizing /usr partition

I am planning to install php and apache on my workstation and think that the /usr partitiion will be running out of space. Is it possible to resize that partition with the cfdisk utility or by another means without having to reinstall fedora to increase the size of /usr?

There are things you can do, for instance if your partition contains subdirectories under /usr/ that are large, add a partition, move the subdirectory to it (or several of them), and then make the new partition mounted inside of it. And that will increase your space. That said it's labourious, and very imprecise

Better would be to create a new larger partition, copy your usr stuff to it, make it the new usr, and then use the old usr for something else, afterall you can mount any partition anywhere

You can't resize with cfdisk, the program you need depends on the filesystem you are using.

resize_reiserfs for example is the Reiser resize command.

resize2fs is the tool for ext2 and ext3 partitions.

I hope that helps!
