Resizing hda1

I need to resize the hda1 partition (that's the OS's partition for me) on my harddrive to make room for more programs, but i am a bit nervous about loosing everything. Does anybody have any advice on how to do it the smart way?

Can you post the results of fdisk -l

To resize a partition, use 'fdisk'. However, 'fdisk' will KILL all your data. To expand your partition (which involves decrease space on another partition), use 'parted'. If you are too afraid to try both, I recommend adding another hard-disk.

It's always a good idea to backup your data on a CD or another computer when you are dealing with disks. Never know what might go wrong.
