Resetting root password in single user mode

Hi guys,

I recently changed my root password , by booting into single user mode , but my question is if the root file system is mounted as read only in single user mode how was i able to change it as resetting a password involves a write operation .

Thanks in advance

it's not mounted read only. when you initially start booting a distro, / is mounted ro to get started, but during the boot stage it remounts them as read write.
