resetting file associations

Hey, I'm having problem's getting smc files to save an associations so that I can double click on them. Whenever I save a specific association for this file it never stays. All others work fine

I think it's probably something I did. My question is: Is there a way to reset the file associations to the way they were when they were installed? I'm pretty sure it's the file association because if I rename the extnetion to *.sma and then assotiate that with the same program it works fine. My OS just won't remember smc files, and I believe it's because there's an corrupted association already in there

Any help would be great

it would help if you mentioned if this is in KDE or Gnome.

i'll assome KDE.

right click the file,
select open with>,
select the appropriate app, or other
tell it to remember it.

I can't imagine Gnome is too different

That's actually what I've been doing. That's what I'm trying to do, but it refuses to save it. I right click and then go to open with and select application (i'm in gnome, sorry i didn't mention that), when i type in the application and click ok (which i've done before and it worked, and can still do with other types of files) it still says there's no applications associated when I double click on it

If you need any other information or clarification just let me know
