mh, doesn't the Ubuntu-Live-CD have an option to repair a system? Maybe it has.

Not that I can see, but maybe it's a line command option ?

Everywhere I go on the internet I find that chroot is the right solution to repair a system.
Is there really no way to figure out what's causing this error I keep having when using chroot ?

The exact error displayed is:
run-init: /sbin/init: no such file or directory
[3.38738] Kernel panic - not snycing - attempted to kill init!
_

So it's not bin but sbin. Does that change anything ?

sbin is system (aka single user) bin ie dir used to boot system (& sys admin cmds). That's a bad breakage..
