Renaming mounted drive in KDE (suse 9.0 pro)
I've just started to get into using Linux and I must say that SuSE do a very good job of helping windows users move to Linux. However, my Sandisk ImageMate drive is auto mounted as SDA1. I can't seem to be able to rename this mounting to something more descriptive. Is there a script which automatically names this drive when it is mounted?

Donīt know if I got this right, but canīt you just rename the dir where it is mounted? You can edit the fstab.

But will it keep the same name everytime I plug it in?

No, it will not keep the same name. You must have SuSE 9.1 and Kernel 2.6 to keep the same name. With 2.6 kernel device mapping is done in user space and you can define names depending on device serial number. So it always retaines the same name.
If you just must change the name to something more appropiate you can make a symbolic link. cd /dev ln -s /dev/sda1 imagemate |
Sohni,
Thanks for that info. Just installed Suse 9, so I don't think I'll move to 9.1 just yet. I'll give the sym links a go and see what happens. Cheers Dave |
