Question Renaming a directory. Is it possible?

I finally got around to installing slackware 8 at home. I want to use blackbox as my X windows but
when I uncompress the tar.gz file it makes a directory "blackbox-0.61.1" Any attempt to cd into it delivers the msg
"no directory blackbox-0.61.1"
I can use pico to get into it and read the readme files etc so I know it is there. I did a "mkdir test-3" and one was created but again I cannot cd into it. I am assuming the "-" is not linux friendly. can I rename directory or can I set the name I want when uncompressing this file?

Thanks for any help

How did you decompress the file? Any options that would have put unwaranted permissions on the dir? Slack 8 come with Black Box if you did a somewhat full install. If you want to rename a directory use the mv(move) command like this:

mv blackbox-0.61.1 [new directory name]
obviously minus the brackets. Linux has no problems with the - hyphen in files, so that's no problem. If you are trying to do things as a user, you might want to 'su' and do things with root permission.

have you tried the full path to cd into the directory... like for example if it was in /home/user1 you would try:

$ cd /home/user1/blackbox-0.61.1

taz.devil is right though, - don't have any problems being used in linux at all.
