rename linux ethernet adapter

Hi guys,

for some reason my new ethernet apater is named lo not eth1 which would be the logical sequence. How do I change it? I looked through the ifconfig man file and didn't find anything.

Thanks in advance!!

are you sure its detecting your new ethenet card?

lo is just a loop back device everyone should have it

if eth 0 is showing up and LO is showing up make sure that your new card (giving that you have 2 in your machine ) is actually loading up

is it a wireless card?

It is not a wireless card, it is a realtek pci adapter. The anaconda (I think that's what's used when new hardware is detected and needs to be cofigure) came up, but I didn't configure it then. when I type in ifconfig they both show up and I was able to use ifconfig to input the address netmask and make sure it was up. So wouldn't that then be indicative of the card being okay?
