Removing small arrow next to gnome menu icon?

I've been searching and searching, trying to find a way to remove the little arrow next to the gnome main menu icon...

Found a way by editing gnome-panel/panel-menu-button.c <--- however I cannot locate this in Fedora 12... help me out here, this has been nagging me for quite some time now.

seeking more information

What does this "small arrow" look like in more detail?
What do you mean by the "gnome main menu"?
I'm not trying to be super geekish but I just don't see enough detail.

Is this arrow pointing down and surrounded by a colored circle? Is it shaped like a small child might draw the sun? If that is what you see,
it is a notifier saying that software updates are available. Fetch these updates and the arrow goes away until next time.

System-->Administration->Update Manager

It will as for authorization. This is a sudo request for the password that you used for original login.

Update Manager will show a list of available packages that have posted updates. Review the list and clear the check-box for packages that you wish to avoid. Otherwise, simply install them all.

Cheers,

It looks like part of the image itself.
Try just editing it out with gimp.

I solved it this way...

go into your /usr/share/themes/the theme you are using/gtk-2.0/Images/Arrows/

Delete the arrow-up.png and arrow-down.png run pkill gnome-panel and voila!

:p

The small triangle means that you can OPEN or CLOSE the drawer clicking there. The exact graphic depends on which icon set your are using.

When you add launchers to the drawer, they are hidden when the drawer is closed. When open, the launcher icons appear, one stacked on the next, above the panel location where the drawer is placed. The drawer remains open until you select something. Then it closes.

I would suggest you read the thread before posting next time. I've already solved it, and your answer has nothing to do with the actual issue. I was not asking about the (obvious) reason/purpose for the arrows/triangles, simply wanted to find the location of them so that I would be able to remove them - since they bothered me from en esthetic point of view.
