Removing Modem

I posted about driver for a modem with chip Ambient MD1742T11VC-B.I do believe I found the driver at http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...9&submit=Go%21
Idownloaded #2. I'm a newbie running mandrake 9.1 so if a veteren of linux cares to check the url and see if #2 appears to be what I need for the driver. Also its tgz format and I know the driver for the modem i'm using now was rpm so how do I go about installing this driver for this modem. Also before doing this I want to remove any signs of the modem I'm using now.Basically want to remove all signs of it shutdown install this other and reboot and install driver then query modem under kppp and hopefully works. Thank You

You say that your previous modem driver package was an rpm: rpms may be removed using a command line such as "rpm -e my_package_name" as root. A package's name is typically the first part of the name of the file that you originally installed.

As for how to install the new one, I'd imagine that the tarball will come with instructions of some kind within it. Tarballs may be extracted using a command line such as "tar xvzf my_archive.tgz".
