removing links


I can't seam to remove a sym link... I have been trying to use the rm command on the link but I get "Is a directory" so then I use the -f and I get "Not a directory"

Why can't I delte this link? please help

rm -rf filename/directoryname

Just be careful whe using the above command, it can be fatal especially when run as root.
