removing kde in debian

I think im missing something here.

im using dedian sarge on a laptop thats not to powerful, i installed kde to see what its like, it slows my machine wayyyyyy down. so i want it gone so i can clear some space and try more things.

ive tried "apt-get remove kde" wich removes 400kb of something but kde and all its bajillion packages are still there.

i then tried to use synaptic to remove every file i could find that had something to do with kde, all seemed fine, i even told it to remove kdm which i still want to use but i figured i could just reinstall it.

and after it went through the whole process it killed X, ok so when i typed "startx" to get back to fluxbox, it started kde.

am i doing it wrong here? anyhelp would be great.

thanks
ryan

Well I got fed up before your reply so i just reinstalled, I had too much crap on the drive i couldnt figure out how to get rid of without just going through and deleting individual files.
