Removing applications installed using TAR -zxf

I have been experimenting with different applications and now I would like to remove some of them. The latest app was a tgz file and was installed using the command tar -zxf <file name.tgx> can anyone tell me how toremove this application? I know I can remove RPM packages using the rpm -e command but what about this one? Do I just delete the directory and all the files?

You can manually delete the files - some Makefiles in the source directory also include an uninstall - you may want to try this first:
make uninstall

If you *only* ran 'tar -zxf <filename.tar.gz>' and didn't run any makefile (make, make install, etc) in the directory then you can simply:

rm -rf <foldername>

where foldername is generally the filename minus .tar.gz, or something similar.
