remove /tmp/.X0-lock ???
 

When logging in as root I get to a screen that has the RedHat logo but it just sits there and does nothing. When I use the startx command at a command line I get a message that includes remove /tmp/.X0-lock. At a command line I typed rm /tmp/.X0-lock and was prompted to answer if I wanted to remove regular file... to which I answered 'Y'es. When trying to log in I still just get to that same screen with the logo and nothing!!! 8^( Can someone help please??? Thanks, Alex

hmmm...just delete everything from the temp folder:

rm -f /tmp/*
