Remove Linux partition

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and have installed Ubuntu 10.4 LTS which does not work the way previous versions--Unity I speculate. I want to delete the partition and await another LINUX which works out of the box. My problem is that my Windows OS came preloaded. Is there an open source FDSK and FMBR program that I can use to fix this problem? Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Hi randyd.
If you only problem is unity then you should just install a diferent desktop manager.
In the web look for screen shots of KDE, LXDE, Gnome Shell, Xfce, Enlightenment17, FluxBox, OpenBox. Once you decided which one you like best ask on the forums for steps on how to install it.

good luck to you!

Please don't hi-jack others threads with unrelated questions. I
split your post and the response to it out of last years carcass.

Cheers,
Tink

Perhaps you could swell the M$oft coffers some more - they insist on charging a fee from people such as neosmart who try to do the right thing.
I downloaded this recovery disk for Win7 back when it was gratis - works fine.

Edit: for a cheaper option have a look for a blog by TobiSGD.

Personally I would:
- boot another distro from the USB or from the CD (knoppix, tinycorelinux, partedmagic?)
- start GPARTED from that distro of the USB/CD
- clean your partition (delete the files, reformat it..)
I have a samsung nc10 win7. I boot it from the USB or from the SD port (I did not made an HDD install). And Iam happy. So, perhaps you can make such "clean" boot from the USB or the SD port (with such clean boots, you can test different distro and choose later which one is the most appropriate for you).

Thanks--will stay away from KDE. I have used UBUNTU for a few years now and like the way synpatic works to add/delete and update. Dash just does not work well for me and as stated Unity is probably the cause. Guess I need documentation to assist me. The Help documentation is not adequate. Command Line is something I have been working to master and am hesitant in cases where it could be crucial to OS. Thank you again for your response.

Sorry if I offended you--windows has had problems since early years, but I managed to be happy. Now it is different and I have been playing with LINUX UBUNTU for a few years and like it. Documentation is essential to getting solutions and I find little or none available to help make end-user functional with new releases. Unity has been written about and I thought I was ready. Dash is part of the problem as well. Thank you for your insight.
