Remove LILO and Knoppix/Debian

Hi all,

I'm running a hybrid box: Win XP Prof. SP2 and Knoppix 3.3 / Debian using LILO 22.5.8 to select OS to start (e.g. Win = hda1).

Since I want to remove BOOTMANAGER and LINUX completely and free diskspace, I need a precise guide on how to do that. There should not be any impact to WINDOWS! - for security reasons I made an image with Acronis.
No panic, I still want to stick on Linux, but on my notebook - seperately :-)

I do not have a Win-CD at the moment.

Pls., can you provide a quick and save guideline. Thanx!!!

You're going to need the XP CD, or at least a rescue disk set. You'll need to boot to one of them and use the rescue console to repair/restore the MBR. Don't see much way around it. You "may" be able to slide by with a Win2K CD, not sure. But someone else may know another way.

This assumes of course that you are have lilo installed to the MBR vs to the root of the disk.

Not too sure, but with mandrake, I can just hit f8 (well I think it's f8, but one of the f keys) which offer me the options of going into an init 3 log in and then I can just type rescue, and from there re-install the windows boot loader.

Then I can bin all my linux partitions with my copy of PM8, and set the space as what ever windows format I use (ntfs as I have XP).

Maybe that'd help ?

regards

John
