Removable hard drive question

I have a removable hard drive where i store all my ogg files. However, if i remove the hard drive and then reinstall linux, can I reattatch and remount the hard drive? Will the files still be readable. Thanks, eastj

Sure, assuming they are actually on the drive and not just symlinked. It'd be like a cdrom, you can take it out, put it back into another box and it still works. Just make sure your new distro has at least read support for the filesystem for that drive.

Cool

If you have the file-system supported
by your kernel, as Master pointed out,
it should be no sweat...

Creating a matching entry in fstab,
and it's all good...

Well, you might have issues with the
files ownership :) ... but that's nothing
su - && chown can't fix ;)

Cheers,
Tink

if it's a usb drive, most likely the device path is
/dev/sda1
or /dev/sda2
...
or /dev/sdb1
or /dev/sdb2
...
etc

but i might be wrong, so give mount a try and see (su first of course )
