remote turn on pc from internet

I have a server running in home but i its not needed to have it turned on all the time.

Sometimes i just want to turn it on from my work or school. Is there a way to do this??

This will depend the BIOS capabilities of the computer. I have seen BIOS options for power up via LAN, but have never tried it. But your operating system can't help you, since it is not loaded when the machine is shut down.

What you are looking for is called "Wake on LAN"

See here: http://www.archlinux.it/wiki/index.p...le=Wake-on-LAN

Your MoBo, BIOS and ethernet chipset have to support this feature. The last time I tried to get it working (2008), it was broken due to some kernel problem. Maybe that is fixed by now.

i saw that the bios had Ring-in Power up.

Is that the same as wake on lan?

I don't know, but doubt it. "Ring-in Power up" sounds like the equivalent functionality, but for a dial-up connection.
Why don't you read your MoBo's manual and find out for yourself?
