Remote shutdown windows pc from Linux ?
Hi all, i've been try to remote shutdown windows pc from linux box using
net rpc command cause that windows pc part of samba user server, but when i try this command (got from internet):

net rpc SHUTDOWN -C "test" -f -I xxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx -U user%passwd
it shows error
shutdown of remote machine failed

i've been try googling but the result not work for me like turn off the simple sharing on windows machine, etc.

Need advices please, sorry about this.

You also need remote shutdown privileges.

Do this from a script:

Or enter with a remote desktop.

Thank's for your reply Simon Bridge, do you mean the user account on win machines:
1. must have administrator account
2. user name on win machines which type is administrator privileges must same with account user samba
It is what i must to do? correct me if i'm wrong and Thank's a lot ^^.

Have a look at the script. It has a section for acquiring the correct permissions.

Basically, the remote user needs to be allowed to shut the machine down and the communication program has to allow this action (some programs restrict remote actions jic). Its been a while since I did this but I am sure I was able to shut down a W98 machine via vnc just by using the start menu.
