Question remote installations on RHEL


Apologize for the super newbieness, but very soon I will have telnet access to a remote RHEL 3.0 machine with a base OS install. My question is...

How do I install software remotely? I have no FTP yet, so how do I get files to the machine? Do I download RPM's with some kind of command? My first install will be some kind of FTP software - so an example might include that...

telnet in

Register with Red Hat's up2date (or install apt for rpm, or yum). These will make it simple to install new programs.

Install sshd

Test a ssh login

Uninstall telnet (or at least I would. Who uses telnet to manage a remote server anymore?)

Then scp your files around. e.g. see:

Thanks - I checked out that red hat site and it makes perfect sense now.
