remote display of GUI

hi guys,

firstly i trust you all had a really good christmas and are prepping for a huge new year tomorrow night...good on you all!!!...like to hear it

i know there are many ways to gain GUI control of a remote machine

x windows
vnc etc

just wondering what the best way is...

im using xshell 4 on my windows 7 laptop to ssh into one of my linux boxes in Ireland...im currently in Poland...will it be possible? or will i need to sit in front of it initially?

any suggestions appreciated...hope you all have a blast tomorrow night!!!

sn

Best way involves security, speed and maybe ability to make some product work. You may not really need a gui so ssh may be best. One can use vnc via a tunnel too. I might look at nomachine or a free version too.

Would you consider changing your phrase? "had a darn good Christmas"

If you're going to connect remotely over the internet via ssh and vnc you will also need to open a port i.e port forwarding on the destination router and if your destination box has a firewall, you will need to create a rule to pass it through.

The internet and youtube have many instructions and videos on doing vnc over ssh and how to create a rule to pass ssh and vnc connections.
