Remote desktop on Linux

Hi Again
Has anyone come across how to use remote desktop agent to communicate from windows to a linux system, like you would communicate from a windows system to a windows server using something like Dameware NT Utils? I am trying to see if you can log on to a linux system from windows using a remote agent, cause i managed to get linux rdesktop to log onto a windows system.

Thanks

I think VNC would work for you:

http://www.realvnc.com/

if you just want, however, to administrate a Linux box from a Windows machine (via command-line/telnet/ssh), putty is a good program:

Do we have any any package that works as a Terminal Server/Client on Linux similar to that in Windows XP?

Ok
yes i do use a program to logon to linux shell command, but is their away to log on using and gui interface. Like you would logon on to a terminal server from a windows system.

Thanks

You can install cygwin onto the Windows machine, and run a remote X11 session

I would recommend FreeNX. Blows VNC out of the water in the speed department. Also cygwin/X11.

An article on FreeNx: http://www.enterprisenetworkingplane...le.php/3508951

And another article (Fedora-centric): http://fedoranews.org/contributors/rick_stout/freenx/

Free client (for Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.) http://www.nomachine.com/

FreeNX project: http://developer.berlios.de/projects/freenx/

The FreeNX server is probably available for you distro in rpm's, deb's, etc.

On Windows, there are a lot of tools. Exceed for one. However, they can be pricy.
Free tools like cygwin, VNC, ICA stuff, maybe even VMWare (haven't used it myself).

VMWare is a software that enables you to create one or more Virtual machines over your operating system. I has nothing to deal with Remote Desktop Connection. But, yes you should try it once, it's a good software.

LTSP is an add-on package for Linux that allows you to connect lots of low-powered thin client terminals to a Linux server. Applications typically run on the server, and accept input and display their output on the thin client display.

If you want a Client that runs on Linux and will connedct to XP, or Win terminal services check rdesktop http://www.rdesktop.org/
