Remote desktop

i'm using red had 9 and am trying to get the remote desktop to work. With windows i remote desktop right to my desk at work. When i go to use red hats remote desktop i get an error message
Browsing the network is not possible. You probably did not install SLP support correctly. I am currently set up using a static ip and am on a router. I opened up the ports i needed 3389 for remote desktop and
22 for ssh. Could there be something i forgot to do? i can't ssh in from work either so i figure it's a linux problem b/c when i remote dektop from work to my win xp it works

Howzit

I have the same setup and never had this problem before. How are u inputing the cmd (rdesktop xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) this is done from the term inal.

I believe RH9 comes with a gnome applet that is a gui front-end for
rdesktop. If you have the RPM installed, you can add it to your panel
by right clicking the panel | add to panel | internet | terminal
services client.

The client I used required a right-click to open the rdp connection
manager. That probably looks more like the Windows version you are
accustomed to.

The remote desktop in redhat uses VNC, which is on port 5901 if its the first display, 5902 if its the second and so on.
port 3389 is used for Microsoft's RDP protocol
You need to use a VNC client (vncviewer) to connect to it, and also
using VNC does not allow you to control a local session like it does in the windows port, instead it'll open a new X session.

edit: lol didnt read your post entirely before i reply, please ignore this, and yea try using rdesktop directly.
