Remapping left and right mouse clicks on Linux Mint

Hi there. I come from a very long background in Windows, but a friend of mine tells me that linux is pretty cool, so I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon from his thumb drive.
Well, when it's not frustrating me to heck, I get the feeling I could make linux work to do whatever I need it to in some fashion.

Currently, I am trying to find a way to map Left Mouse Click to the Alt right key, and Right mouse click to the Control Right key. I can't seem to figure out the exact keycodes I need, even when using xev. I think I got it to work momentarily by pasting a command in the terminal, but then it reset itself after an hr or so.
