Reinstall Fedora...which file settings to keep?

I did an inplace upgrade of Fedora from FC4 to FC5 on my test Linux machine. It did not go well and I am having problems.

I would like to do a fresh install but I'd like to save some of the configuration files to the network. I have spent a few weeks learning Linux and I would rather not re-invent the wheel when it comes to settings like: network, SAMBA, NFS, user names, VNC, services, firewall, etc.

Note, I just want to be able to open the files and read them to see how things were set...not be able to use them as part of the install. Are there any directories in paticular I should save? It seems like /etc is a good one...what else?

The /etc is the good one for the entire system. You might want to also save the users home directories as well, the .hidden directories are nice to have. Just things like book marks email, desktop settings and such are in them.
