reinstall 8 after installing wrong fedora 9 (i686)

Hi

I would like to have instructions to rescue my fedora 8 after upgrading to the wrong Fedora 9 (i686 instead of i386), or upgrade to the right i386 version of fedora 9. All my trials failed!

You should set up a new partition and install the new Fedora 9 distribution in the new partition. Once you get the new Fedora working correctly then copy your /home and personal data into the Fedora 9 partition.

The problem is that I've already installed Fedora 9(i686) and it does not work! I do not want to loose all my installed programs and thats why I try
to deinstall this fedora and get back fedora 8 before to install the right one fedora 9 i386. Trying rescue fedora 8 didn't work. reinstalling 8 is my last option in this case I would install the 9 on the same partition and reinstall all my programs.
