registering Linux
 

Where do I go to register Linux? And am I registering my particular distribution, or the Linux operating system?

Is this a joke? If not, then there's no registration required... maybe suse or redhat want you to join their club, but there's no real benefit, and any less commerical distro's won't do anything like this at all

why do you want to register your linux distro/usage?

What distribution? One that you paid for? If so, go to the company's website and see there. If you got it for free, there is no regristration or official support.
If this is for support, I think LQ is the first place to go.

he might be referring to the registered linux users at the linux counter site...link is in my signature...if that's what he means :)

if thats it, you're just registering yourself as user, not a specific distro, and you can register your machine too, if you wish...

Yes, I am referring to all the Linuxquestions.org members whose signatures say "Registered Linux user xxxxxxxx." Sorry for being unclear.

Thanks for that link. I have signed up; the counter says I am Registered Linux User #395039.

[cough] Crikey...does that mean I have to regenerate in an alcove and be a tertiary adjunct of a unimatrix? Please say no...if I wanted to sleep in a box, I'd become a vagrant; and if I wanted to be a Trekker again...well, I can't imagine that.

Be aware of course that being a "registered linux user" is absolutely pointless other than you wanting to contribute to a largely unreliable statistic. just a gimmick.
