Reformatting NTFS to ext3

I have cleared my NTFS parition of all useful data, and I now want to make it fully usable for Linux. How do I go about reformatting it as ext3?

I would make a backup first off. Most likely under windows.

- Format the drive as you please
- Use Samba to get the backup on your newly formatted drive.

I'm sorry, I don't know how to format drives without losing the data on them.

as root, type:

cfdisk /dev/hda

Choose your NTFS partition and format it and go to "Type" and choose #82, "Linux".

Then write out.

Once that is done, type the "mkfs -t ext3 /dev/hda#" command (replace # with the former NTFS partition).

I recommend reiserfs though.
