Redirecting ls

Hello All,
I have an assignment where I have to put the list of file names from one directory to another in a file called listing.dat
I have this command
Code:
ls -i ~/UnixCourse/fileAsst >> ~/UnixCourse/commandsAsst/listing.dat
I get no error all the names are copied but the ssh I am on does not accept it and says I am missing some file name but I compared in test run it had all the file names.

What does this mean? Are you getting an error message? What is it?

I found out what the problem was:
One the >> operator adds so I might have multiple and another problem is there are also inode numbers in the file but I have no idea how I can just add names and not anything else.
@suicidaleggroll I have no error messages I just have to figure out a way to get rid of the numbers.

Why are you using "ls -i"? Just use ls, and you'll get only the file names.
