If you are new to linux and this is a new install I would change to a newer version. Redhat 9 is very old like 4 or 5 years old. It uses 2.4 kernel and has less support for new hardware. If wishing to remain in the Redhat family then look into installing Fedora Core 5 or 6. It will have 2.6 kernels which is what is current. better hardware support for newer hardware. The ability for others to help with a more current distro.
