RedHat Linux problem booting up

When I boot up it starts and the green [OK]'s start comming up on the right but when it starts the:

Checking root filesystem

it has an error and it says that there is a check enforced, it starts the check of the filesystem then it gives me this error:

It asks me for the root password for maintence then it brings up a prompt:

(Repair filesystem) 1#

And I don't know what to type in, and it doesn't let me in to Linux, I am running RedHat Linux 9.

Thanks in advance, MooMooFarm

You need to do exactly what it says to do, run fsck.

Not sure what that command does or to do, I'd suggest reading the man page in which you can find here:
