redhat linux installation problems - SATA hard disk not detected
 
i am trying to install redhat enterprise linux WS edition on
my Intel Core 2 Duo system with 1 GB RAM and 160 GB Seagate SATA
hard disk. the installation fails and is reporting
"no hard disk installed".

Please let me know how to get over this problem.

Do you have an Operating System already (win XP or other OS) on your system or is it a fresh machine without an any operating system ?. If it first , does the other operating system detects the SATA disc ?. Also, If you have plans to install dual operating system like Win XP other than RHEL, do install windows initially and then Linux, as Linux can understand Windows/other OS and not the other way.

I suggest that you search this site and the web; a lot depends on the version of RHEL WS if I remember correctly.

Also some bios have the feature of disabling "sata" feature of the disk drive. In case your bios supports disabling "sata", just do that and again try installation.

Although I have not tried RH5, I do know that 4 and below do not support SATA. You will have to get the driver from the manufacturer first, or find one that is compatible.
