redhat installation using USB


i have a usb hardisk of 320 gb and when i tried to install redhat using it my desktop did not read my usb. in other words i wish to know how to boot using usb since my cd/dvd rom is not working.
is it that we have to make our device boot-able before using it .

Hi -

1. You need to configure the BIOS to boot from USB hard drive or USB stick (this is often a non-default option; the specifics will depend on your motherboard

2. Your USB media must be bootable (i.e. it must have a valid boot sector)

Strong suggestions:
1. New CD/DVD drives aren't that expensive - consider buying one

2. There are also USB CD/DVD drives: this might be ideal for you

3. Alternatively, you can boot Linux from a USB stick. For example:

4. Finally, maybe you can install and run RedHat (or CentOS, which is pretty much the Same Thing ;-)) on a VM running on whatever operating system is currently installed on your desktop:

can u tell me how to configure bios to boot from usb as my usb is bootable.Also i have worked on vmvare ..cn i use usb to install redhat in virtual machine ?
I first installed my virtual machine and then used dvd to install redhat.i wish to know if we can use usb to do the same and also if there is any difference in the procedure
