Hi,

I'm trying to install RedHat 9, and am a bit of a Linux newbie, although I have sucessfully installed one or two easy distro's, a few years ago!

Anyway, the problem I am having is this: I selected graphical installation, and just a short while after the installation starts, I get this error:

ImportError: /lib/libcom.err.so.2:cannot read file data: is a directory
install exited abnormally

It then tells me I can reboot my machine safely, which is all very well and nice, but I'd like to get RedHat installed!

I ran the cd image checking utility, and it came up with no problems, so I'm a bit confused as to what the problem may be!


I posted about this on another forum, and someone said that since I am trying to install from a burned ISO, I may experience problems as many have done so before! Is this the case?

If anyone could help, I'd be very, very grateful!

yah thats the only thing i can think of, that maybe there is something wrong with your discs...i seen a few instances of peoples cd's passing the media check, but really i guess in a sense that they shouldn't have....if at all possible i would suggest getting another copy of the distro, preferably from another site....i recommend the *.gov sites on the redhat mirror lists, or from www.linuxiso.org ... i also recommend rh8 rather than 9
