RedHat-9 mysql

I am trying to change the location of my database.
I have edited /etc/my.cnf and changed datadir
to /mnt/data/mysql
without succes.
What can I do ?

Don't know if this trick will work....

Try making /var/lib/mysql a link to /mnt/data/mysql and then you don't have to change any thing.

I thought about it to, but when the database will be 5 GB, I will have 2*5=10 GB no ?
