redhat 9 linux login problem

after successfully installing redhat 9 linux i can not login.the following message comes out

kernel panic:attempt to kill init!

how can I solve this.

The only way I know of to solve that one is with a reinstall of the OS.

Also, may I suggest that you try a more recent distribution? Redhat 9 is significantly out of date. If you want to stay within the Redhat family, CentOS is based on the Redhat Enterprise distributions, and is very stable.

Getting a kernel panic right installation is rather a sign that something during installation did go wrong (maybe a problem with the hard disk or a badly written install CD/DVD). Had there be any hangups during installation? Or any messages about being unable to install certain packages?

Sometimes people refer to Fedora 9 as RedHat 9. If you really use the real (and really old) RedHat 9, then the problem can also be due to the fact that todays hardware has components that the old kernels do not know about.
