RedHat 9 Install Problems on system with Serial ATA Hard Drive
Hello all. I have almost no previous experience with Linux (a run-in with RedHat 7.2 years ago...) and I am trying to do a RedHat 9 install on a machine (new Dell Dimension 8400) with a 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive.
Of course it does not go very far into the install before I am prompted to load drivers to find/identify this a hard disk. This is a no-brainer fix in a Windows XP install, but where do I find/how do I use the drivers for RedHat?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Most important thing you forgot to mention - what make is you HD ?

Just FYI, that's a very old distro, don't think you can get any updates for it anymore, & you'll have trouble with more modern hw/sw.
If you like the Redhat series, the replacement you're looking for is now called RedHat Fedora Core 5. HTH |
The hard drive specs:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160 GB SATA Model no. ST3160023AS Would it be a wiser choice to migrate to Fedora Core 5?? What is the difference (functionality) between Fedora Core 5 and RedHat 9? Thanks for the help! |
