Redhat 9 Gnome 2.4 Installation issue - X-Windows startup script
Okay, first n00b post! I dual-installed redhat 9 anong with winxp on my new computer a month ago, intending to ease myself from windows user into seasoned linux pro, and everything must be fine cause i have been using the Linux boot actively over the windows boot for about a week now, and have a basic knowlege of how to work the terminal, install from source, etc.
One small problem has arisen when i have tried to install gnome 2.4 using garnome, it has downloaded all the neccassary source, and compiled, but the readme now says to edit the startup script, and i realised i dont know anything about how the system boots up, or how to change it! Any information would be much appreciated, specifically about the script that x-windows uses to load a wm, but I am willing to learn other specifics while I am here so I dont have a similar problem elsewhere in the future. i have rh9 set up so that i can choose between either gnome or kde when i log in. is there a way to add gnome 2.4 to the list or at least replace the version of gnome that i have been running. btw. i am also running a dual boot system using windows me. and once i figured out some of the basics of linux i really seem to prefer it over win. thanks for any help |
