RedHat 9 & Suse 8.2 - Which one?
 

I have both Suse 8.2 and RedHat 9. I have loaded both distros and played with both of them. They both seem okay to me. I don't really know if I have a preference, however, I guess I need to commit to one or the other.

What are the pros and cons for these distros and why would you select one over the other?

Three years ago I was faced with the same problem and I chose SuSE because it was the first distribution that I got working to the point that I did not have to reinstall it again because of my newbie mistakes. Since then I have used SuSE because it works fine and upgrading SuSE is easier than switching to some other distribution.

But, by the laws of chance I could have landed on Red Hat as the first working install. In that case I would have been a happy Red Hat user for the last three years.

Go with whatever you have working now.

You dont have to pick ONE.

Run both until you know enough to make a decision.

And dont leave out all the other distros out there. You may find another one that suits you better.
