redhat 9.0 install 2.4.20-6 kernel

:Pengy:

Maybe you guys can help..........I'm trying to install redhat 9.0 on a emachines 333cs with 160mb ram and two hard drives. One has 2.1gig with win98 on most of it and the other drive is a newly installed 20gig that only has the win98 partitions on it. This is my older computer and i just want to give linux a try...I want a dual boot system to use. My situation is that when i boot from the cd that was supplied i get some error messages that include: "unable to get kernel paging request at address c00000000" and "kernel panic attempted to kill the idle task"..........There's also 0ops 003 and mention of a swap something...................I've done about a weeks worth of searching on google/linux, redhat.com,linuxquestions.org,justlinux and the linux documentation project............I've tried lots of suggestions based on situations similar to mine like:
* used boot arguments to narrow down any possibilities(noathlon, noprobe, nopcma, nodma etc.)
*used memtest to check ram
*swapped ram/used one ram unit then the other
*disabled power management, plug and play, and cache
The bios is American megatrends.
Maybe being new to this i just overlooked something simple....should i have left the second hard drive totally without any partitions or something .......please help if you can.

THANKS........................

its possible your cd is corrupt if you can try downloading a new one or boot from a floppy if your just trying to get into the cd for now it doesnt matter what your hdd setup is you can change that from inside the cd environment
