REDHAT 9.0 Freezes
Hey guys, I just installed RedHat Linux 9.0....So far I'm liking it, though a bit complicated at times, but I usually figure out a solution....But not this one.....My linux keeps freezing when Im searching stuff online or chatting....IT's getting annoying.....This is my first time ever using it...I thought linux is suppose to be stable...i juss want a solution.....i like linux so much...but this problem is getting annoying......btw...it freezes every 30-60 mins or so....sorry for any inconvience....

hm does the whole OS freeze or just an application? Have you tried pressing Ctrl + Alt + F[1-6] ? That should get you into another Virtual Desktop... you could then type
ps -U <username>
and then kill the PID number of the crashed application.
Give more information so that someone (better than me :P) can reply you

hm......freezes in mozillla, and sometimes GAIM.....My comp specs are:
900 Mhz AMD Atholn
640MB SDRAM
120GB Maxtor 7200RPM Hard Drive
Nvida Geforce 2 32MB Video Card
Sound Blast Live! Sound card
hm....i think that should be enough.....
im new to linux...what does ps-u do?
I was reading post....people are saying Slackware Linux is better for learning linux....could that be true?

Have you got the latest NVIDIA driver installed? The one that comes with Redhat 9 is not as stable as the one NVIDIA supplies. The problem with Redhat 9 is that the default NEWBIE install does not supply any development software and so you cannot install the linux driver.
IMHO I would stick with the distro you chose just because you can get there. Re-install linux (is easier than trying to resolve 7,000,000 dependency issues) and include all development packages. Then download and install (init 3) the NVIDIA driver and see if that works....?
